Working With a Fashion Student
Agnieszka, also known as A.M. Lorek, is a Polish photographer, stylist, makeup artist, musician, artist, and fashion designer. She has an incredible attention to detail which comes across in her images, you can guarantee that everything included is deliberate. Her images are a gateway into a fantasy world full of nymphs and princesses and elves and witches. She really brings to life the roles of fairy tale creatures, most of which are portrayed as female. The entire setup of her images is in her control: she chooses where they shoot, what they wear, she applies the makeup, and then she takes the shot. She creates hyper-realistic characters and it's almost unbelievable that they are fictional.
It's hard to pinpoint what exactly pulls you in about her work whether it's the surreal nature of images created in post-production, the mesmerising and vibrant colours, the deep relationship the images seem to have with nature or just that they suck you into an alternative realm of fantasy.
In an interview which you can find here, she talks about
wanting to be close to the 'Absolute' (God) and that she uses her art as a way
to do this. She says that the muse for her work is " 'innocence'. If I
find its essence in a human - no matter how they look - I fall in love with
them. Spiritually"
I'm absolutely in love with her work and I'm hoping that my images will turn out at least a fraction like hers. She's managed to create these different fantasies by using a lot of vivid, not exactly natural, colours that create this sort of hazy, dreamlike feel which I think would be important for me to incorporate with my work as I'm looking at myths which are basically stories. I think attention to detail within my shots is also important, I need to make sure everything included is there by design not accident.
